When you decide to start an assisted reproduction (ART) journey, all the attention goes to protocols, medications, and dates. That’s understandable – but there’s a part of the journey that starts earlier and depends on you: nutritional preparation.
The goal is to arrive at the first treatment cycle with your body in the best possible condition. Concretely, that means four things. First: correct deficiencies, because effective supplementation takes weeks or months. Second: stabilize your metabolism, with regular, complete meals that keep blood glucose and insulin in balance. Third: adopt a dietary pattern rich in vegetables, fish, legumes, extra virgin olive oil, and whole grains. Fourth: cut back on what works against you — for example alcohol, and smoking if present.
The ideal timeline? Three to four months before treatment begins, because that’s the maturation time of eggs (and of sperm: the preparation involves your partner too).
Preparing nutritionally for ART doesn’t guarantee the outcome, but it optimizes your starting conditions and gives back something precious in a journey that is often experienced passively: the feeling of doing your part, every single day.
